Fullscript has partnered with Dr. Lara Zakaria, PharmD, CNS, IFMCP, to provide the following protocol to better support individuals taking oral contraceptives.

This protocol was designed to address common oral contraceptive-induced nutrient depletions. Beyond drug-induced depletions, it offers additional considerations when treating menstruating individuals, such as supporting healthy iron levels, elimination pathways, hormone metabolism, and microbiomes.

Foundational support

VitaSpectrum® Powder by Klaire Labs

Supplementing with a multivitamin/mineral may help maintain healthy vitamin (e.g., B vitamins, vitamin C) and mineral (e.g., magnesium, zinc) levels, which are often negatively impacted by oral contraceptive use.

Dosing: Mix 1 scoop into 8 oz (1 cup) of water or liquid of your choice. Take with food.

MegaPre Precision Prebiotic by Microbiome Labs

Supplementation with a prebiotic formula can help support a healthy and diverse microbiome.

Dosing: Mix 1 scoop into 16 oz (2 cups) of cold water or liquid of your choice. Take with or without food.

Additional support

Supplementing with iron may help maintain healthy iron and ferritin levels in menstruating individuals.
